Guardian Angels

Guardian Angels ( From the Bible Nuggets Series No. 24 )

Psalm 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

I'm sure all of us have seen the picture of the children on the rickety old bridge with a raging torrent under them being watched over by an angel. The picture is based on Bible truth. Matthew 18:10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven THEIR ANGELS do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.

Have you ever been in a situation where there was imminent danger and no visible way of escape and yet the danger passed you by without harm. I have. As a child I and my 3 brothers were in the back of a pickup loaded with the family furniture. Mom was in the cab with my grandfather driving. My grandfather had poor eyesight and really shouldn't have been driving. At any rate he attempted to pass a car on a two lane road as we approached a bridge. There was also a car coming at us at a very high rate of speed. I closed my eyes just before we hit and could taste a strange taste in my mouth. Every hair on my head was standing straight up. I heard the car coming at us sliding and then it was behind us and everyone was safe. When I think back I realize there was no good explanation for not crashing outside the hand of God protecting us. There was no room for that car to really miss us yet it did.

I ran out of road on a motorcycle as a young man one time. I was doing eighty when I looked last at the speedometer just before entering the intersection. I did not receive any injury at all. When I went back and looked at where I had crossed the intersecting road into the yard of an elderly lady my skid marks went within 6 inches of a utility pole. The bike had to have been leaning away from the pole or I would have crashed into it.

Do I believe in God's providential intervention in matters such as this ? You bet I do.
The King of Syria one time sent an army to take Elisha the prophet of God. They surrounded him and his servant: 2 Kings 6:15-17 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? 16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

Just because we cannot see into the spirit world with our natural eyes does not mean that the spirit creation of God is not there. Elisha's servant could not see the angels of God that encamped round about them but they were there just the same.

I read the story of a missionary and his family one time who was beset by a tribe of natives in their mission house. They waited and waited for the attack to come but it never did. Later it was found out that the natives had seen "many men"" on top of the house and would not attack for fear of the strange apparition.

God truly watches over His own for His purposes. Why God spared me I do not know. God is sovereign and knows the end from the beginning. He has purpose for each of us and until He is ready to call us home we do not have to fear what man can do to us or as in my case what I foolishly almost did to myself. Ain't God good?

Steve Long was a Gospel singer and accomplished musician in our area. He came down with Hodgkins disease and reached the point of death. When he came back almost literally from the grave he wrote a song entitled "He's Got an Angel Watching Over Me". His testimony was such that you truly knew that God had spared him at that time. He had several spells with his disease that brought him close to death. His testimony was so inspiring and his love for his Jesus was so great that he inspired many people who thought they had it bad. He always had a smile and testimony for His Lord and how God had blessed him.

A while before his death he was working with Carl Perkins on an album of Gospel Music. I heard him relate how that he told Carl that he might be called home before they could finish and that Carl might have to finish it without him. Carl died a short while before Steve did and it was Steve who had to work on alone. I don't know whether the work was ever finished or not but Steve touched Carl's life with his dedication and love of Jesus.

Steve's brother Eddy who sang with Steve told us of how on the night that Steve died they were all around his bed in the room and watched as he slipped away. When they were almost certain he was gone and there was no sign of life, his loving family gathered around his bedside and started singing Amazing Grace. As the tears flowed down their faces in sorrow a weak hand raised toward the heavens in one final testimony of his faith and Steve crossed over.

I believe that when God called Steve home that the Angel who had been at his side and watched over him through His sickness took him by the hand and escorted him home.

There Were Angels

They made their presence known to me
Though I was not able to see
The angels of our Lord nearby.

Help from a spiritual realm
Arrived in time to take the helm
Of my damaged, earthen vessel.

They steered me out of the pit.
Gentle and kind was their spirit.
I will never forget those days.

Like a breeze just traveling by
Many wings take motion on high
Ready to help more souls in need.

Psalm 91:9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. 11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

"Open Letter To The LORD" By Stephen Monday

Lord God, we thank you for your word,

Which is brought to pass, each day

Every promise that you have spoken

Is made manifest, in every way

Thank you for your faithfulness

Your mercy, glory and grace

Your mighty signs and wonders

That You, provide each day

Your love can take the coldest heart,

And melt away it's chains

It unbinds, every grip of dark

And undoes, old Satans reign

The smile upon a baby's face

Is fashioned, By thine hands

As hues within a rainbow

Reflect Thy perfect, righteous plans

Teach us LORD, to look up first

Before we interfere, ourselves

To consider all the splendors

That Thou hast made Thyself

Renew each heart, to see those gifts

Bestowed on every child

That we may live, made new again

Forgiven, and reconciled

Turn us from, the ways of men

Make plain to us, your glory

That we may raise, and praise your name

As YOU reveal your story

Give us eyes, that see your will

For all things, YOU made good

Give us hearts, to do our part

In the peace that YOU, instill

LORD please send that latter rain

That fulfills every spirit

So joy may leap, In our hearts again

At Thy voice, when our ears hear it!

We praise YOU LORD, for all you do

And receive all things in faith

For as your spirit, sees us through

YOU are always, WORTH, the wait!

May God's greatest blessings be upon all of you,
