At The Table

The clock on the wall

reveals the dinner hour

Mom gives a call

but who can hear

when no one is near-

Rooms with screens

among other things

take part in

"the great divide"

while empty chairs

remain side by side

without a family

to share

a prayer of thanks

or a meal -

Busyness and technology

have begun to steal

the most tender part

of the family heart.


At the table

we were once able

to be together

for a little while

of each day

with a meal and a pray.

How sad, that family time

At the table

has drifted away.
