No Need to Beg

Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
The context of the above verse is the reward of the good as opposed to the reward of the wicked. The entire chapter 37 of Psalms deals with how God cares for those who love Him and how He deals with the evil ones. David evidently wrote this Psalm in his sunset years and is able to look back on life and write from what he has seen and experienced.

David could with all the prophets and Saints say that God had never forsaken him although he had greatly sinned against God in the matter with Bathsheba (2 Sam. 11-12:24) and with the numbering of Israel.(1 Chron. 21). Grave sins but David repented and God continued to be with David. Paul in writing the Epistle to the Hebrews 13:5 said concerning God; "---I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."

Daniel proved it in the den of lions in Daniel 6:16-21. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego proved it in the furnace in Dan. 3:10-26. Abraham proved it, Isaac proved it and Jacob proved it. Joseph proved it over and over As did Paul, Peter, Silas, John and a multitude of others. Time after time God has proven that he will not forsake the righteous in their times of trouble.
David also said he had not seen His seed begging bread. Doctrinally this may be a prophecy of Jesus (see Galatians 3:16) but as a practical matter I believe every faithful Christian can claim this. Again looking back through the Bible we find example after example where God supplied when it seemed impossible to provide. Read in 1 Kings 17 of Elijah being fed by the ravens and then of the widow woman and son who had only a handful of meal and a little oil. They were going to eat it and prepare to die. Elijah comes and tells here to first fix him a cake and make a cake for her and her son. Each day they were able to go back to the barrel and cruse of oil and they never wanted for food. Think of the five loaves and 2 fishes feeding the multitudes in Matt. 14:17-21. Remember the manna (Ex. 16:15) and quails (Numbers 11:31) in the wilderness where God fed possibly as many as 3 million people.
Feeding His own is no problem with God. Supplying your every need is no problem with God.

Matthew 6:31-34 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

If a person who claims to be a Christian is found begging for his needs then I tell you there is a man who has not put his trust in God. God has promised that He will provide for those that are of faith. He has not promised to provide if you forget Him and trust in your own power to provide. Herein lies the problem today. We think we must get all the wealth we can so that we can take care of ourselves and our family. We feel we must save enough to send our children to college and take vacations. We fret, work, worry and get ulcers and high blood pressure trying to gain wealth, enough to get by on and trinkets. God on the other hand says "seek you first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you."
Oh people, do we really realize what a storehouse God has and how He is wanting to empty it on us if we would but put Him first in all things.

Patient Waiting

How quiet are the fields of flowers
Patiently waiting to be quenched
By Heaven's gentle rain showers.

In humble succession of it all
Seasons take turns peacefully…
for they must answer to a higher call.

Time will politely unravel what we seek.
As we whisper heartfelt prayers to God,
Who faithfully carries us when tired or weak.

Mountains aren't high enough to ascend
To a wondrous place where angels rejoice
And spirited celebrations have no end.

Walking along a warm golden beach
Our attention is secretly captured
By God, always within a prayer's reach.

Blankets of God's grace and care
Can be felt through the night
Bringing peace to the air.

Throughout all my life on this land
He is with me among this journey
Directing my heart and holding my hand.

2 Thessalonians 3:5
And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God,
and into the patient waiting for Christ.
